Star Wars: The Force AwakensstarJohn Boyegahas lined up his next high-profile project, landing a lead role inThe Circle. The actor will star alongsideTom HanksandEmma Watson.The Circleis based on the critically-acclaimed novel of the same name by Dave Eggers (Promised Land), with production scheduled to begin this September in California.
The story centers on a tech conglomerate known asThe Circle, which connects a user’s personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system to create an online identity. The plot follows a young woman Emma Watson who goes to work for this tech company, run by young genius Ty (John Boyega). The two strike up a relationship together, realizing how difficult it is to be with someone in thisdigital ageof transparency.
James Ponsoldtis directing from his own adapted screenplay.Tom Hanksis producing with his Playtone partnerGary Goetzman, along with Likely Story’sAnthony Bregman,James Ponsoldtand Image Nation’sWalter F. Parkesand Laurie MacDonald. It isn’t known how many other main characters have yet to be cast.
The role continues a meteoric rise forJohn Boyega, who made his feature film debut in 2011’sAttack the Block. He also stars in Imperial Dreams, but December’sStar Wars: The Force Awakenswill truly put him on the map. While it hasn’t been confirmed, the actor is expected to reprise his role inStar Wars: Episode VIII, which will be written and directed byRian Johnson.
