While we still have a long way to go before 2015 is over, arguably two of the most anticipated movies of the year are next month’sAvengers: Age of Ultronand December’sStar Wars: The Force Awakens. Aside from the fact that Disney owns both franchise, one would think these superhero adventures and movies set in a galaxy far, far away have very little in common. While doing press forAvengers: Age of Ultron, producerKevin Feigerevealed that eachMarvel Phase Twomovie has a very specific but subtle nod to theStar Warsfranchise: someone gets their arm cut off. Take a look at what he has to say below.

“So is this a spoiler forAnt-Man… not really. I’m obsessed withStar Wars. Who’s not? I’m 40 years old. I’m in the movie business. I went to USC. So I’m obsessed withStar Wars- and it didn’t start out as intentional, but it became intentional, including that beat that you referenced. It sort of happens in everyStar Warsmovie, but I was sort of looking at it, ‘Okay, is Phase Two ourEmpire Strikes Back?’ Not really, but tonally things are a little different. Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every single one.”

Star Wars

While it remains to be seen whose arm gets cut off inAvengers: Age of UltronandAnt-Man, the site has amassed a “supercut” of every arm being cut off in Phase Two so far. InIron Man 3, Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) lost his arm when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) starts heating up his Iron Man suit. InThor: The Dark World, Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) arm gets cut off by Loki (Tom Hiddleston), except it wasn’t real, just a trick used to deceive Malekith (Christopher Eccleston).Captain America: The Winter Soldierhas the most obvious nod toStar Wars, since we saw in a flashback that Bucky (Sebastian Stan) had his arm cut off when he fell off the train inCaptain America: The First Avenger, and he spent the rest of the sequel using a powerful robotic arm. And finally, inGuardians of the Galaxy, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is seen chopping Groot’s (Vin Diesel) arm off, but, of course, it does grow back.
