All good things must come to an end.Star Warswill be continuing on in some form or another for probably longer than any of us will be alive, but a beloved chapter of the Star Wars universe is about to come to a close. It was announced today that, after four seasons,Star Wars Rebelswill conclude.
The big reveal was made during theStar Wars Rebelsseason 4 panel atStar Wars Celebrationby Executive Producer and creatorDave Filoni. It was a very bittersweet moment for him and everyone in the crowd during the panel.Star Wars Rebelshas been an excellent series for the three seasons it has been on so far, but this is a show that always had an end point. Since the series takes place between the events ofStar Wars: Revenge of the SithandStar Wars: A New Hope, there were only so many stories to be told inStar Wars Rebelsbefore that clock ran out. The show is bumping up pretty closely to the events ofRogue One: A Star Wars Storyand we can pretty safely assume we will be very close to that movie, or maybe even in it, by the timeStar Wars Rebelsseason 4 finishes up. Here is whatDave Filonihad to say during the announcement.
“I really appreciate that love from you guys. I think I can make this story as meaningful as can be. I know what it’s like when I don’t get to end a series.”
Star Wars Rebelsseason 1 takes place roughly five years before the events ofStar Wars: A New Hope, so four seasons seems like a very logical amount, since the idea is to bridge the gap between the end of theStar Wars prequelsand the beginning of the original trilogy.Dave Filonihas made some great contributions to theStar Warsuniverse, starting withStar Wars: The Clone Wars. But, as he points out, that show didn’t get to end in a proper way. That is why he made a conscious choice to wrap upStar Wars Rebelsin his way and give it a proper conclusion. He did not confirm, however, if anew Disney XD Star Wars seriesis on the way soon though.
Dave Filoniremained tight-lipped about specific story points inStar Wars Rebels Season 4, as he will surely want everything in this currentStar Wars TV seriesto be a surprise. But he did drop a few juicy details. Both Mon Mothma, as voiced byGenevieve O’Reillyand Saw Gerrera, as voiced byForest Whitaker, will be coming back in the upcoming season. It was also announced thatWarwick Davis, who played Wicket the Ewok, among others in theStar Warsmovies, will be playing Rukh, who was a character from theHeir to the Empirenovel and is associated closely to Grand Admiral Thrawn.
We still don’t have a specific premiere date forStar Wars Rebelsseason 4, but it will be debuting this fall on Disney XD. The voice cast forStar Wars RebelsincludesTaylor Grayas Ezra Bridger,Freddie Prinze Jr.as Kanan Jarrus,Vanessa Marshallas Hera Syndulla,Steve Blumas Zeb Orrelios, andTiya Sircaras Sabine Wren and is Executive Produced byDave FiloniandSimon Kinberg.
