Last month, Netflix released their latest original TV series,Stranger Things, a love letter to 1980s genre cinema that fans can’t stop talking about. Netflix still hasn’t officially renewed the series yet, but series creators The Duffer Brothers have already teased their plans forSeason 2. While we wait for the streaming service to make an official announcement, Netflix CEOReed Hastingsessentially confirmed the renewal for thisNetflix series.

The Guardianspoke withReed Hastings, who wouldn’t confirm that the deal is finalized for Season 2, but he did state, “We would be dumb not to.“Netflixdoesn’t release any viewing data for its shows, butReed Hastingsdid mention the high ratings from users on IMDB. Here’s what he had to say about the Netflix model and how it’s so much different than a traditional network.

“Because we don’t have advertising we are under a whole different model to not compare all the shows and rank other shows, because it kind of doesn’t matter what everybody loves the most it, matters what you or I love most. You can get approximations … if you look on IMDB the most popular TV show right now it’sStranger Things, so that’s a reasonable proxy. It’s not that there’s no data, just that we don’t give out our data.”

The show was created byMatt DufferandRoss Duffer, who cut their teeth through a number of short films and by serving as executive producers on Fox’sWayward Pineslast season. In a recent interview,Matt Dufferrevealed that they didn’t necessarily want to answer every question at the end of Season 1, but they also didn’t want to resolve the main story. They also revealed that the second season, if it’s ordered, would be quite similar to the first season, with eight episodes spanning between 45 and 55 minutes long, but we don’t know for sure ifWinona Ryderand the rest of the cast will return.

Last week,The GoldbergscreatorAdam F. Goldbergrevealed that he wants to create a crossover betweenStranger ThingsandThe Goldbergs, which is also set in the 1980s.Shawn Levy, who executive producesStranger Things, responded on Twitter that he would try to make it happen, but we don’t know for sure if he was joking or not.
