WithSuicide Squadhitting theaters tomorrow, the cast and crew are wrapping up their press duties, includingJared Leto. While the critics have not been too kind to the movie, box office analysts are predicting that it could earn more than $140 million in its opening weekend, which would shatter the August record of $94.3 million set two years ago by Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy. During a recent interview,Jared Letorevealed that several scenes involving his iconic characterThe Jokerwere actually cut from the movie.
During a new interview with the French websiteTeleStar,Jared Letowas asked if he had any favorite scenes as The Joker that were cut and didn’t make it into the final film. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t offer any details, but did reveal there were several scenes with The Joker that didn’t make it out of the cutting room. Here’s what he had to say below.
“There are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film, hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows.”
Of course, it’s possible that Warner Bros. will release an extended edition ofSuicide Squadlike they did with this spring’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That version of thesuperhero moviefeatured over 30 minutes of new footage that didn’t make it into the theatrical release, which pushed the runtime to three hours.Suicide Squadcame in much leaner at 123 minutes, but a report surfaced yesterday that claimed there was plenty ofstudio interferencewith multiple cuts of the movie in existence.
Of course, we’ll likely never know how different these cuts were, and ifDavid Ayer’sdirector’s cutwill ever see the light of day through an Extended Edition on home media. Much likeBatman v Supermanbefore it,Suicide Squadhas been savaged by the critics, with the movie dropping from 38% on Rotten Tomatoes earlier this week, to its current score of 29%, as fans get ready for preview screenings in theaters nationwide later tonight. This weekend’s debut will also likely determine whether or not the studio’s planned sequel,Suicide Squad 2, will move forward. The proposed sequel has already been rumored to be R-rated, most likely due to the success ofDeadpool.
