A sequel to the box office dominating video game adaptation,The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is happening,Nintendohas confirmed. During the recent Mario Day event held by the video game company, it was also revealed whenThe Super Mario Bros. Movie 2will land in theaters: June 18, 2025.

The confirmation ofThe Super Mario Bros. Movie 2was made by Nintendo exec Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination CEO/founder Chris Meledandri, with the sequel all set to once again bring together the talents of Nintendo, Universal, and Illumination to continue the adventures of Mario and Luigi.

Animation onThe Super Mario Bros. Movie 2is “beginning soon,” with the project described as “based on the world of Super Mario Bros.” You can check out what else Miyamoto had to say about the project below.

“We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is planned for release in theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and throughout the month of April in other territories.
