Ever since shooting began earlier this month onSuper Troopers 2, the upcomingcomedy sequelkeeps expanding its cast. Today we have word that recent additionTyler Labinewill be joined byHayes MacArthurandWill Sasso, with the actors playing a trio of Mounties. The Broken Lizard Twitter even showcased the first set photo with all three actors in costume.
The casting news broke atDeadlineearlier today. Their report states thatHayes MacArthurplays Mountie Podein,Will Sassoplays Mountie Archambault andTyler Labinerounds out the trio as Mountie Bellefuille. These Canadian cops are described as “rugged and manly,” who all believe that Americans are “obnoxious and oafish.” It wasn’t revealed how these characters connect to the main characters, played by the Broken Lizard troupe.
These actors join newcomers such asEmmanuelle Chriqui, who plays a French/Canadian cultural attaché trying to improve relations with the United States, andRob Loweas Guy Le Franc, the mayor of a town on the U.S./Canada border. They will be joined by Broken Lizard gang,Jay Chandrasekhar,Kevin Heffernan,Paul Soter,Erik StolhanskeandSteve Lemme. Other originalSuper Troopersstars such asBrian CoxandLynda Carterare returning as Captain O’Hagen and Governor Jessman.
Many thought that production had started last October, whenErik Stolhanskesent out the firstset photo, which made sense since the original plan was to have the movie be released in the summer of 2016, after they first launched their crowdfunding campaign. DirectorJay Chandrasekharclarified in an interview that they were only shooting a test segment last fall, with filming now under way in Boston. The Broken Lizard team raised a whopping $4.5 million through a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo, with Fox Searchlight Pictures set to distribute.
Jay Chandrasekharis directing from a script he co-wrote with the rest of theBroken Lizardteam, withRichard Perelloreturning to produce.
