Rachel Brosnahan, the Emmy Award winner known for her role inThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is set to get her superhero breakout when she stars in 2025’sSuperman. Brosnahan is the new Lois Lane to David Corenswet’s Clark Kent, a couple that will surely give people something to talk about when the DCU film opens next July. As fans prepare for the Man of Steel’s revival, Brosnahan has shared a very honest opinion about some of her colleagues who have criticized superhero movies in the past, and have failed to stand by the films they’ve made in the genre.
The actor spoke to Amanda Seyfried for a piece in Interview Magazine. They went through the highlights of their careers, withSupermantaking up most of the conversation. “It’s been amazing. I know that sounds like such a canned answer, but I’ve never done something that has a baked-in fan base already,” Brosnahan says when Seyfried asks her about her part inSuperman, a role that she has said is inspiredby Margot Kidder’s interpretationof the classic comic book character.

James Gunn Is Sure to Rattle Toxic Snyder Fans With His Response to Them Wanting to See ‘Superman’ Crash & Burn
The ‘Superman’ director doesn’t care one bit about the hate generated by Snyder’s loyal legion of fans.
Brosnahan also used the opportunity to talk about the bad rap that superhero movies often get – especially from actors who have participated in the genre. To this day, there aren’t many Hollywood stars who haven’t appeared in at least one superhero film. This is what Brosnahan replied when Seyfried noted that with superhero movies “you can feel it when people are doing it with passion and grace and curiosity”:

“I don’t know why people say, ‘Yes’ only to then turn around and complain about it. Look, I don’t want to sh-t on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”
The comments by the new Lois Lane feel like a non-direct reply to statements like Dakota Johnson’s, whorecently addressedher role in the panned Marvel film,Madame Web, saying that it wasn’t her fault that it failed: “Unfortunately, withMadame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point.”

Rachel Brosnahan on Why Superman Feels Like an “Everyman”
During the interview, Brosnahan praised the work of co-stars Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, who is set to play Lex Luthor in the James Gunn film. She revealed that she and Corenswet only “read together once,” and said that their chemistry played a huge part. The actor also responded to Seyfried’s comment thatthe caped hero has always feltlike an “everyman”:
“Totally. But he’s also an outsider. He loves people, but he’s an alien. He’s trying to fit in and walk among people and wants to be like them, but he also knows that he’ll never be quite like them, and that can be isolating. I feel like that’s part of why so many people see themselves in him.

“People have such strong feelings about him and the world and whoever’s in charge of it. It’s cool to be a part of something that people are so passionate about. It’s definitely intimidating, too.”
