One of Stallone’s finest action films,Demolition Mantells the story of John Spartan, an LAPD police officer who’s obsessed with catching a criminal named Simon Phoenix. He manages to capture Phoenix during his latest mission, but the collateral damage is massive. Hostages died because of Spartan’s violent plan, and he is put on trial beside Phoenix as a criminal. They are both cryogenically frozen, condemned to spend their lives suspended in a large block of ice.

Decades pass, and Phoenix is reawakened for a parole hearing. Phoenix finds it easy to escape and he goes on the run in San Angeles, former Los Angeles, a peaceful city that Phoenix will bend to his will. Authorities decide
that their only chance at capturing Phoenix is to thaw Spartan. Unfortunately, Spartan’s encounter with a cleaner and conservative future will be too much for the old-school officer. Per the film’s official plot synopsis:

A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society.
Sylvester Stallone’s Highest-Grossing Films, Ranked by Box Office Performance
Action star Sylvester Stallone has a magnet to drive audiences to theaters, and these are his highest-grossing films that prove it.
The film was written by Daniel Waters, Robert Reneau, and Peter M. Lenkov. Marco Brambilla, a commercials director, took on directing duties and did so under the supervision of action producer Joel Silver. It was Brambilla’s debut in the film industry, and the pre-production process was challenging. Stallone and Snipes both needed some convincing to star in the movie, while Lori Petty was cast as Lenina Huxley, but she was fired from the set. Sandra Bullock eventually replaced her as the love interest.

Upon release, the film’s box office performance was good. It made over $159 million worldwide, and it was one of Stallone’s most successful films of the 1990s (the most successful one wasCliffhanger, also released in 1993). Even though it’s regarded today as a so-bad-it’s-good ’90s action flick,Demolition Manwas actually received reasonably well by critics. It currently sits at 64% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Other action additions to Tubi includeBig Trouble In Little China,Kong: Skull Island,Run All Night, theTakentrilogy andWhite House Down.

‘Demolition Man’: A Great Dystopian Future Movie?
Yes, the film has its fair amount of comedy. And yes, Snipes' punchlines get a bit tiresome at some point. ButDemolition Manalso feels like a clever nod to society’s inevitable view of progress andits twisted outcome. The film lacks several common tropes of action movies of the past - like sex scenes and excessive profanity - there is an entertaining enough movie here with two icons of the genre. And, it’s free on Tubi, so what more could you ask for?
