AsThe Boysuniverse grows, it’s creator,Eric Kripke, is scared the series will become another MCU-like franchise and transform into one of the things it frequently parodies. As well as the incredibly successful main series, Prime Video’sThe Boyshas already spawned two spin-off shows. The animated series,The Boys Presents: Diabolicaldebuted in 2022, and the live-actionGen Vwas released just a year later (with a second season currently in production).

Speaking toRolling Stone, Eric Kripke revealed that hefrequently worries aboutThe Boysbecoming the things it satirizes. As well as a scathing satire of the American political system and corrupt capitalism,The Boysalso likes to poke fun at the incessant wave of superhero movies which have flooded cinemas and streaming services over the last decade. The Vought Cinematic Universe (featuring the supes from the show playing themselves in movies) is the show’s spoof take on franchises like theMCU. Kripke said:

The Boys Season 4-1

“I worry a lot about becoming the thing that we’re satirizing. Like, daily, I worry about it.”

The Boys - Season 4

In season four of The Boys, Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the control of Homelander. With only months to live, Billy Butcher must find a way to work with The Boys if they want to save the world.

Unlike the PG-13 MCU, Prime Video’sThe Boyspushes its R-rating to the limit, constantly one-upping the previous season’s most shocking moment. Kripke says he loves this style of storytelling, and part of his fear aboutThe Boystransforming into another by-the-books show is the criticism the show will receive from fans. Although, Kripke says if it does happen, then he andThe Boysabsolutely deserve it. Kripke explained

The Boys Season 4 with Butcher and Starlight and a bunch of chaos and election signs

“I say it all the time to people on a lot of calls, like, our brand is punk rock. We deserve extra scorn if we sell out.”

The Boys' Final Season Will Be ‘Emotionally Satisfying’ But ‘Surprising’

The fourth season ofThe Boysis currently released weekly on Prime Video (with 4 episodes available to watch at the time of writing). Kripke has previously gone back and forth about how long the show will run for, at one point joking that it could run as long as hisprevious flagship seriesSupernatural- which lasted a whopping 15 seasons. It has now officially been confirmed thatThe Boyswill end after its fifth season.

Anchorman Director Once Tried to Make The Boys Trilogy, Couldn’t Get the Greenlight in Pre-MCU Era

Before becoming a hit series on Prime Video, Step Brothers director Adam McKay tried to turn the property into a movie trilogy.

During the conversation, Kripke addressed this decision, and revealed his hopes for the show’s grand finale. The most important thing for Kripke is thatThe Boysending feels satisfying and well deserved. But, the creator is adamant that the finale will still shock audiences. Kripke said:

The Boys

“I have an ending in mind, I’ll say that. I want it to be satisfying, right? I mean, you could count the great series finales on one hand. So it’s a real hard target. And I would want it to be emotionally satisfying but also surprising in how I’m delivering it.”

Fans are hoping that the fifth and final season ofThe Boyscan return the show to top form. Season 4 has been heavily criticized by fans, with some complaining that the series has gone ‘woke.’ Season 4 currently sits at adivided 51% audience score on RT, the lowest in the show’s history.

Season 4 ofThe Boysis currently streaming on Prime Video.
