The Boysis preparing to unleash its fourth season on Prime Video this June, but in a new interview, showrunnerEric Kripkehas finally given an update on what could be the next spin-off series. After being discussed briefly last year,The Boys: Mexicohas received very little attention, so the new update from Kripke is a pretty major one in a world where shows can quietly be pushed aside and never see the light of day.
So far,The Boyshas seen the animated spin-offThe Boys Presents Diabolique, along withGen V,continue the success of the expanding universe of the comic book superhero franchise, and according to Kripke work is very much still continuing on the next offshoot of the saga. Speaking toEntertainment Weekly, Kripke said ofThe Boys: Mexico:

“They are still making the deal with the writer for the pilot. He has an amazing pitch, and we all giggle and think about how fun it would be. But there are a lot of hurdles for that show before it’s a real show. He’s got to write an amazing pilot, he’s probably got to write an amazing episode 2. I think he can and he will, but we’re a while away from truly starting to drop in the Easter eggs and the setups and stuff.”
Blue Beetlescribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is expected to be working on the series, but it seems that for Kripe, one of the biggest challenges will be not going too far down the Marvel route of requiring fans to watch everything to enjoy anything. Kripke added:

“I really don’t want people to feel they have to watch one [show] to understand the other. I never want it to feel like homework or mandatory viewing. I think that’s hurt Marvel in a certain amount of ways, and I don’t want to do that.”
The Boys Has Already Made Big Connections With Gen V
While it seems that everyone wants to have sprawling interconnected franchises these days, Kripke clearly doesn’t want to see this happen withThe Boysbeyond theconnections already made between the flagship series and spin-off seriesGen V.
The spin-off appeared to mostly be telling its own story throughout the first season, at least until the appearance of both Homelander and Billy Butcher. Now, we know that the events ofGen Vwill have a significant impact on the world ofThe Boysin the imminent Season 4. Withfilming underway onGen VSeason 2, andThe Boysconfirmed to be getting a fifth season, how the two series will continue to be connected is something yet to be revealed. Based on Kripke’s comments, the links between the two shows could end up being quite fleeting. Speaking of the potential ending of both shows, Kripke noted:

“I have an ending in mind for The Boys. We’ll see how long it takes to get there, and then Gen V is its own animal that will have its own ending. They inform each other, but we let each one breathe on its own.”
The upcoming fourth season ofThe Boyswill premiere its first three episodes on June 13. There has currently been no release date revealed forGen V’s return.
