In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face,Caesarand the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
War rages this summer, as the latest installment of the iconicPlanet of the Apes seriescontinues on August 04, 2025. Matt Reeves, who was behind the camera forDawn of the Planet of the Apesreturns to direct. He is working from a script he co-wrote with Mark Bomback. Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are producing.
War for the Planet of the Apes takes a cue from the first two movies in this franchise by making significantnt changes to its human cast. While Andy Serkis is back in the lead as Caesar, there will be a mostly new cast this time around. Woody Harrelson leads the charge as the Colonel. He is joined by Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval and Terry Notary.

Producer Dylan Clark compares the movie to Christopher Nolan’sBatman Beginsand how it handles its sequels.
“I think that’s what the audience wants. A contemporary audience does not want to relive the old mythologies. Those movies were made at a certain time for a different audience, about different things. These are different characters, we have much more ability to realize them in authentic ways. We want to create our own and further the mythology. Chris Nolan is brilliant. Everyone knows who Batman is but Chris Nolan said, “No, no you don’t. Let me tell you what Batman is. I’m going tell you the beginning of Batman and give you his mythology.” We’re not as big as Batman. We’re not as good as Chris Nolan but we looked at that and went, “Oh! That’s right. That’s what people want.” If you’re going to show them these franchises in different lights, do it in a different way. Give them some different stuff to chew on. Make it about things they’re dealing with now or else, it will feel a little bit antiquated or outdated or just feel like a bad remake - which we’ve seen.”
