Dressing like royalty isn’t for commoners, which is well documented in the Netflix original series,The Crown. Season 5 shows how tumultuous the 1990s were in the 10-episode arc, which showed how far the press was really willing to go for a scoop. Costume designer Amy Roberts even took the fashion to its limits by creating exact replicas of the outfits that were worn back then by the Royal Family. These immaculate tailored outfits proved that the then-Prince Charles knew the value of a good suit.
His fashion, of course, was only surpassed by Diana, who showed the world some iconic fashion moments.Season 5 ofThe Crownis finally able to show the slightly older and wiser Princess. There are hundreds of looks in this season that bring audiences down memory lane, like the Harvard sweatshirt and the muchtalked-about “revenge dress.”Some of the costumes were even originals, while others were replicas with the costume designers’ own spin on the look. Here is the best fashion moments in season 5 ofThe Crownranked.

6Lilac and Pearls
Princess Diana lived for a good blazer moment, andThe Crownrecreated one of her most memorable ones. In episode three of Season 5, she is seen wearing a lavender blazer and skirt paired with a pearl necklace. Here, Princess Diana matches perfectly to her future boyfriend, Dodi Al-Fayed, whom she meets at this very polo match. However, she also wore this purple number when she visited the United States in 1997.
5Holiday Tartan
The Crownkeeps up with Princess Diana’s love for plaid and the color red when they recreated this outfit in episode four. In this episode, the royals were celebrating Christmas, which makes this outfit the perfect one as she dressed for the occasion. Princess Diana had multiple sets of red and plaid ensembles, and the show couldn’t get enough of it. According to theDaily Mail, the Princess wore this outfit to the christening of Eugenie just before Christmas in 1990. However, the bright red skirt pays homage to the red skirt suit she wore around the streets of London in 1991.
4Radiant in Red
Red turns heads, and Princess Diana knew this. InThe Crown, she wears a red jacket to visit a friend in the hospital and the costume designers of the show have taken inspiration from a similar jacket. The Princess in 1992 wore a red jacket to visit Royal Marsden Hospital as it opened a new wing, but the jacket in the show is actually resembling what she wore to the redevelopment project tour in 1993. Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Diana, looks stunning in this jacket in the second episode of the season.

3Fabulous in Florals
The patterns here aren’t the same for the outfit that Diana wore in Seville in 1992. However, the padded shoulders and power earrings give this look praise towards the original. This is also the outfit that Diana wore when she was on her second honeymoon with Charles. The floral number shows off her love of flowers and is similar to a blue one that the Princess of Wales would wear quite often. The Princess knew that children loved the bright colors in this dress and was the reason why she wore it often. After all, she was a princess of the people.
2The Sexy Halter
The sexy halter dress was one of the final outfits for Princess Diana in Season 5. This is a beautiful baby blue dress that is embellished with sequins. Diana is seen wearing this to London’s Royal Albert Hall to see a production ofSwan Lake. In real life, she wore a similar colored dress to a different event, the Royal Gala.Glamoursaid that the costume designers found inspiration from another dress Diana wore to a Vanity Fair dinner party in June 1995 for this signature look in Season 5.
1The Revenge Dress
Fans ofThe Crownwere anticipating the moment that Netflix would give them the iconic revenge dress, and they did not disappoint. The costume designers of the show did this moment and dress justice as they did it perfectly — all the way down to the accessories. The original black dress that was designed by Christina Stambolian became the look of empowerment and strength for women everywhere when Diana wore this after the public found out about Charles' affair. Diana not only stunned Charles, but the press as this dress was seen in every paper the following morning.
