Scream masterfully revealed Ghostface’s identity in the opening scene.

“This iconic costume consists of one soft glow-in-the-dark PVC mask and a custom-made sparkly lurex robe with hood and built-in gloves…Attached to the mask is a black cotton shroud with a self-adhesive strip sewn into the top to secure the robe’s hood, which has the second strip sewn onto the interior. The pull-over robe has a one-piece front and is made of a unique woven fabric which contains silver-colored threads to give the appearance of sparkles. The sparkles ultimately helped to visually distinguish the costume from dark backgrounds and was unique to the early Scream films.”

Scream: The Birth of a Franchise, the Renaissance of a Genre

Few images from the horror genre are as iconic and important as Ghostface’s attire in theScreamfranchise. Since it first terrified audiences way back in 1996, the costume has undergone only minor modifications throughout the entire franchise. And chances are that won’t change anytime soon, regardless of where the franchise goes following themuch-publicized media disaster that occurred last year. Considering this is the costume used in the very first film that came out almost 30 years ago, you could end up owning part of the legacy of horror legend Wes Craven’s creation.

In the originalScream,Sidney Prescott is a teenagerliving in Woodsboro who’s still grieving the death of her mother. Maureen Prescott was brutally killed one year ago, and now another killer is making his rounds, slashing teenagers and preying on Sidney. Ghostface seems to have taken his love for horror films a bit too far, and he (or they) won’t stop until they show Sidney why the rampage started. The film was hugely successful, renewing the audience’s taste for horror with its meta approach to the formula.
