The Officeuniverse is expanding with a new mockumentary-style comedy on Peacock.Varietyreports that the streamer announced a formal series order on Wednesday. The upcoming series, which is yet to be named, will exist in the same universe as the belovedThe Officebut will welcome a new cast of characters in a different setting. The possibility of a new Office-verse show began growing in January, with former showrunnerGreg Daniels(The Simpsons, King of the Hill) assembling a team to develop a series set in the same mockumentary universe.Daniels has co-created the series alongsideNathan For You’s Michael Koman.The logline reads:

The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.

The upcoming comedy will see the documentary team behind the iconic Dunder Mifflin docuseries as they set their sights on a new challenge: a struggling Midwestern newspaper with a desperate publisher relying on volunteer reporters.Domhnall Gleeson (Ex-Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus)will lead the ensemble cast, but details about their characters have not been released. According to the series' creators,the upcoming show is not a reboot of the Emmy Award-winning comedy.

The comedy is executive produced by Daniels and Koman, who are joined by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who created, wrote and directed the original BritishThe Office, and Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille). Production will commence in July.

The original British version ofThe Officeaired for 14 episodes from 2001 to 2003. In addition to co-creating the series, Gervais starred as David Brent, the manager at the Slough Branch of the Wernham Hogg Paper Company. The series hascemented its place as a legend among British sitcoms. It earned several British Comedy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Peabody Award.

Adapted by Daniels for American television,The Officepremiered in 2005, following the quirky employees of the paper company Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The show’s ensemble cast included Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B. J. Novak, Ed Helms, Rashida Jones, Amy Ryan, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson, James Spader, Ellie Kemper and Catherine Tate. Through its nine-season run,The Officereceived 42 Emmy nods, winning five, including The Outstanding Comedy Series Award (for its sophomore season).
