Shared tosocial mediaby Johnson himself, the black-and-white image finds the two actors working into the wee hours to tell whatever storyRed Oneplans to tell. Unfortunately, details on that are still pretty thin on the ground. Nevertheless, you can check out the latest look atRed Onebelow.

“4am. Very cold and very dark,” Johnson says in a caption alongside the image, which shows both himself and Marvel actorChris Evanswalking determinedly towards…something in the middle of a cemetery. “Like our personalities,” he continued, “Me & @ChrisEvans walkin’ into the Christmas unknown…”

Not much has been revealed about the plot ofRed One, but the project has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.” Johnsonrecently compared the project to the likes ofJumanji, Hobbs and Shaw, Harry Potter, andIt’s a Wonderful Life. Which, honestly, does not make things any clearer.

“An absolutely wild past month of shooting our new Christmas franchise known as RED ONE. Our movie is a big, fun, action packed and fresh new take on Christmas Lore,” Johnson said ofRed One. “Think JUMANJI meets MIRACLE ON 34TH ST meets HOBBS & SHAW with a dash of HARRY POTTER and sprinkled on top with my all time favorite Christmas movie, ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE… let all that sink in.”

Directed by Jake Kasdan, with a script written by Chris Morgan, and from an original story by Hiram Garcia,Red Onestars Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill), Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Nick Kroll (Don’t Worry Darling), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), and Wesley Kimmel (The Book of Boba Fett), alongside Johnson and Evans, with J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Whiplash) starring as Santa Claus and Bonnie Hunt (Jumanji, Toy Story 4) starring as Mrs. Claus.

Dwayne Johnson’s Future as Black Adam Now Uncertain

While Johnson’s time as a Christmas character is now set, things look less certain for his tenure as a Black Adam. Despite the action superstar working for decades to bring the DC antihero to the big screen, box office returns onBlack Adamare not what the studio had envisioned, with reports now stating that a sequel has been scrapped.

“Also unlikely is a sequel to Black Adam,”a report by THR reads. “Despite the hype surrounding the movie of launching a new corner of DC, a lot of it led by star Dwayne Johnson, the movie has only grossed $385 million worldwide and insiders at the studio say the movie, which cost more than $190 million to produce (two sources peg the actual cost at $230 million, not including marketing), will be lucky to break even, even considering ancillary revenue. Even if the movie does eke out a minimal profit, any follow-up’s inherent rising costs dim the prospect of a sequel.”

Red Oneis scheduled to be released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video just in time for the 2023 holiday season.
