What The Heck Is Happening on ‘The White Lotus’ This Season?
The third installment of HBO’s beloved black comedy satire of the incredibly rich and unaware has been a divisive one for fans. This may be mostly in part to the serieschanging its beloved and iconic theme songin a way that differs from the previous two seasons, which — while tailored to their environment — featured the iconic “wooo wooo woo woo” trills fans have come to know and love to an obsessively meme-able degree. There are plenty of familiar aspects to the series, like the return of fan-favorite characters Belinda (Natasha Rothwell),Gary (boo!), and what looks to be a dead body in the first episode. But even those nostalgic additions cannot keep the complaints at bay.
Of course, it is still incredibly early in the season’s run, and first reactions on social media are little more than that, so all of those feelings can (and likely will) change as the episodes progress. Of course, we’re most interested to see what happens with Belinda and Gary (you’re in danger, girl!), but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit we’re sort of hoping to see Ke Huy Quan check into the hotel if even just for a moment, too.

Heck: what if he’s the dead body Zion (Belinda’s son) happens upon in the opening moments? That would certainly not be something we’d see coming — something the series truly excels at doing in so many ways. But we’re not going to get our hopes up: after all, this is not the first time creatorMike Whitehas recruited some famous friend to do a little over-the-phone cameo: back in Season 2, when Michael Imperioli’s character, Dominic, calls his estranged wife, the woman on the other end of that phone call?None other thanLaura Dern, my friends.
