‘Masters of the Universe’ Has Been a Long Time Coming
TheMasters of the Universefranchise, which began as a toy line in the 1980s before expanding into an animated series and a live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella, among other things, has remained a pop culture staple for decades. The characters and story have remained ever present, and for more than a decade, so has the idea of rebooting the movie franchise based on the IP.
However, it has not been an easy road forMasters of the Universe. In the last several years, the project has passed hands from director to director, writer to writer, cast numerous people as the titular muscle-bound hero, and even swapped studios from Netflix to Amazon MGM Studios. However, it seems that after many disappointments, the movie is finally heading in the right direction, with a script in place and a release date already set for 2026.

The bony adversary of He-Man, who in recent years has become ingrained in internet culture for several memes, is a role that was mostrecently voiced by Mark Hamill in Kevin Smith’s animatedMasters of the Universe: Revolutionon Netflix. While Hamill only provided the voice for the character, someone is going to have big shoes to fill following that, and the wonderfully campy performance of Langella in the cult classic 1987 movie.
