The winner has been announced for this year’s Best Performance in a Movie award at theMTV Movie & TV Awards. Following a year of immense success for the hit film,Top Gun: Maverickpicked up another big win with starTom Cruiseearning the award. Knowing Cruise, it’s also no surprise at all that the actor chose to provide his acceptance speech for the golden popcorn while flying through the air in a plane. We can hear him accepting the award while thanking the fans through a transmission from the aircraft. You can watch the video below.
“Hi everyone, thank you so much for this award,” Cruise says. “I make these films for you, I love you. I love entertaining you. I know how much you enjoy it. How much you appreciate it. There’s just no better feeling.”
Cruise then encourages his fans to go see his next movie,Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, which hits theaters in July. Given how much creditTop Gun: Maverickhas been given for revitalizing the movie theater business following the pandemic, Cruise wants to keep things going by having the people come out to support his next big sequel as well.
“I hope you enjoyMission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. It’ll be coming out in July,” Cruise adds. “It is a wild ride. You have a wonderful summer. Thank you again for letting me entertain you. It’s an absolute privilege. We’ll see you at the movies!”

Tom Curuise Gets a Big Win
The competition as pretty stiff, and it was hard to predict who may be winning this award. The nominees included Austin Butler forElvis, Florence Pugh forDon’t Worry Darling, Keke Palmer forNope, and Michael B. Jordan forCreed III.It’s also one of several times Cruise has been nominated for the award, with his first nomination going back to 1993 for his role inA Few Good Men. He previously won twice, once forJerry Maguirein 1997 and again in 2001 forMission: Impossible 2. His other nominations includeA Few Good Menin 1992,The Firmin 1994, andThe Last Samuraiin 2004.
Looking over the past few years, some of the other winners for this award include Tom Holland forSpider-Man: No Way Home, Lady Gaga forA Star Is Born, Emma Watson forBeauty and the Beast, and Charlize Theron forMad Max: Fury Road.Chadwick Boseman also won twice, once forBlack Pantherand again forMa Rainey’s Black Bottom.
