Last month during Sony Pictures' CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas, the studio revealed the first look atInferno, the third adaptation ofDan Brown’s blockbuster novel series starringTom Hanksas Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. While we don’t know when that footage, or the first official trailer will debut, the studio has debuted the first poster, featuringTom Hanksand the tagline “Every clue will take him deeper.” Hopefully this one-sheet will be followed by the first trailer in the near future, so stay tuned.

TheInfernostory centers on Langdon, as he wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, with no recollection of who he is, or how he got there.Felicity Jonesstars as Dr. Sienna Brooks, who helps Langdon regain his memories as they both try to stop a nefarious madman from unleashing a global plague, which is tied intoDante Alighieri’s classic novelInferno.

Thesupporting castis rounded out byIrrfan Khanas Harry Sims, a.k.a. The Provost,Omar Syas Christoph Bruder andSidse Babett Knudsenas Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization.Ben Fosteris playing the villain Bertrand Zobrist, a scientist trying to unleash a global plague that will solve the world’s problem with overpopulation. Sony Pictures has set an October 28 release date forInferno, putting it up against Paramount’sRingsand an untitled horror film from Lionsgate.

Ron Howardis directing from an adapted screenplay byDavid Koepp, based onDan Brown’s novel.Ron Howardis also producing alongsideBrian Grazer, withDan Brown,Anna Culp,Bill Connor, andDavid B. Householterserving as executive producers. It isn’t known if the filmmakers andTom Hankswill team up to adaptDan Brown’s third Robert Langdon novel,The Lost Symbol, which was originally in development afterAngels & Demons, although the filmmakers decided to skip over that novel and makeInfernoinstead, based on the book of the same name that was published in 2013.

BothThe Da Vinci Code($758.2 million worldwide) andAngels & Demons($485.9 million worldwide) were substantial hits at the box office, but we’ll have to wait and see ifTom HanksandRon Howardcan make it three blockbusters in a row withInferno.
