Back in September,TrainspottingdirectorDanny Boyleconfirmed that production will get under way on the long-awaited sequelTrainspotting 2this summer. Then in December, it was confirmed that the entire original cast ofTrainspottingwill be back, with a 2017release datebeing planned. TheOfficial Humans of Edinburgh Facebookpage recently spoke toDanny Boyle, who confirmed that filming will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the original movie shot, with pre-production already under way.

“We’re up in Scotland filming Trainspotting 2 just now. I think what I love most about what I do is the variety, and being able to do something new every day. I get to meet such amazing people all the time. I think everyone’s fear is doing something a robot can do, and getting stuck doing something repetitive. I feel very fortunate and grateful to be able to make films, and to be able to always have a choice in what I do. Coming back to Edinburgh has actually been really fascinating, since filming the firstTrainspottingEdinburgh has changed dramatically. you’re able to see the gentrification massively in the city.”

The interviewer later clarified in the Facebook page’s comments section that the director is actually “making/researching” the movie in Edinburgh now, withprincipal photographyset to begin in May. An official title hasn’t been given yet, but it has already been confirmed that they won’t use the same title as Irvine Welsh’s 2002 novel sequel,Porno. Regardless of the title, the story will still be adapted from this follow-up novel, following the four main characters as they become involved in theporn industry.

Ewan McGregor,Jonny Lee Miller,Ewen BremnerandRobert Carlylewill reprise the iconic roles of Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie in the sequel.Danny Boyleis directing from an adapted script by originalTrainspottingscreenwriterJohn Hodge. Andrew Macdonald,Danny Boyle,Christian Colsonand Bernard Bellew are producing through their Figment Films, Decibel Films, and Cloud Eight Films companies.

Scheduling has been an issue for this follow-up in the past, sinceJonny Lee Millerstars in the CBS dramaElementaryandRobert Carlylestars on ABC’s fantasy adventure series Once Upon a Time. Withshootingscheduled to start this summer, that meansDanny Boylewill be taking advantage of both stars' summer hiatus' from their respective shows.
