With production still under way on Showtime’sTwin Peaksrevival, even more casting news is starting to surface.Deadlineis reporting thatNaomi WattsandTom Sizemorehave recently joined the cast, but no details were given about the characters they are playing. We reported back in late October that series creatorDavid Lynchwas eyeingNaomi Wattsfor a role, but now she has reportedly signed on.
The site also reports thatDavid Lynchhimself will reprise his on-camera role from the original Twin Peaks series as FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole. It isn’t known how significant of a role he will have in thisTwin Peaks revival, but the filmmaker starred as Cole in six episodes of the original series. We have already seen a brieftrailerfor the show, but it didn’t reveal any actual footage, although it did tease that the population in this sleepy little town has remained unchanged, stuck at 51,201.
As of now,Kyle MacLachlanis the only confirmedcast member, but there have been rumors that Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson),Sherilyn Fenn(Audrey Horne),Miguel Ferrer(Albert Rosenfield) andDana Ashbrook(Bobby Brooks) will reprise their roles as well.Amanda Seyfriedis rumored to be playing a brand new character, possibly the daughter of Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and Annie Blackburn (Heather Graham). Other rumored new cast members include Balthazar Getty,Robert Knepper,Robert Forster,Peter Sarsgaard,Laura DernandJennifer Jason Leigh.
It has been rumored thatRobert Forstermay be taking over for Michael Ontkean as Sheriff Harry S. Truman, since the original actor has long since retired from acting. There is also speculation that he may just be playing a new lawman character that has taken over for Truman. Another rumor claimed that Balthazar Getty may be playing an existing character, but no details have surfaced regarding his role, or any of the other new characters. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, and with production alreadyhalfwaydone. Showtime recently confirmed that the series won’t debut until early 2017.
David Lynchis directing co-wrote the series withMark Frost, with the writers creating one massive script that will be shot as one long movie. The show will later be broken up into installments after it is shot. At this time, an exact episode count has not been confirmed.Naomi Watts, who had her big break inDavid Lynch’s 2001 filmMulholland Dr., will next be seen inThe Divergent Series: AllegiantandDemolition.Tom Sizemorewill next be seen inUSS Indianapolis: Men of Courage.
