The ending ofTwisterskicked up a storm among audiences, as the growing romance between its two leading adrenaline junkies, Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) was left open-ended, without the typical Hollywood first kiss. Many audiences praised the unconventional finale, which didn’t force an unwarranted kiss from the starring characters. However, a small section of the movie’s fan base have been very vocal online, criticizing the movie for not committing to the romance sub-plot, and Glen Powell loves the online response.
A follow-up to the 1996 original film Twister, Twisters is a sequel set years after the original, said to be fast-tracked by Steven Spielberg and Mark L. Smith, with Frank Marshal as producer. Little details exist about the film, but Helen Hunt is expected to reprise her role as Jo, with the film likely to pay homage to the late Bill Paxton.
Speaking toScreenRant,Glen Powell addressed the backlash toTwistersnot featuring a kiss in its final scene. Originally,Twisterswas meant to close with Tyler and Kate cementing their new relationship with a kiss. However, thanks to some expertadvice from none other than Stephen Spielberg, the scene was cut. Powell revealed that he loves the backlash to the scene because, at the end of the day, it shows how much people care about the film. Powell explained:
“I’m taking it very personally! I’m sure you’ve seen the behind-the-scenes, where I did get to kiss Daisy Edgar-Jones, which really is all that counts. [Laughs] We had a great time, and I’m really proud of the movie.
I really think that even that [backlash] shows that people care, which is really great. I just love how excited people have gotten about that movie, and Daisy and I send each other the TikToks and the gifs. There’s so much funny stuff coming out of it. It’s fun. That’s what summer movies are about. It creates this conversation and cultural moment, and people dress up and do the thing. It’s been really awesome.
So, kiss or no kiss, everybody’s a winner.”
Twisters 2 Remains Unconfirmed, But Glen Powell’s Star Power Increases

As for hisTwistersfuture, that remains uncertain. Nothing has been confirmed by director Lee Isaac Chung or studio executives. However, the core cast have all declared their desire to return for a sequel. Following the film’s release,Daisy Edgar Jones said she’d love to returnfor a sequel. The actress simply said:
“Definitely. I love that world of storm-chasing.”
Meanwhile, Anthony Ramos Jr., who co-stars with Powell and Edgar-Jones, has actively called for a sequel to be greenlit. Speaking toEntertainment Weekly, theHamiltonstar said that audiences clearly love the movie, so why wouldn’t they make more. Ramos Jr. said:
“Hopefully, we get another one, and we continue to grow in this world because it’s such a big world and it’s such a big community”
