The Vision inWandaVisionis genuinely excited about the Disney Plus series he calls “a sort of six-hour movie.” Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen are returning to the Marvel universe as the titular characters inWandaVisionwhich is set to premiere in the Spring of 2021. During an interview at the D23 Expo, Bettany had this to say about the show’s concept.
“I don’t think that myself or Lizzie have ever been more surprised than when [Marvel Studios head] Kevin [Feige] pitched the idea to us…he pitched this idea for a sort of six-hour movie that I would never in a million years…have thought of.”
Bettany’s Vision and Olsen’s Wanda, aka Scarlet Witch, first met inAvengers: Age of Ultronwhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner created Vision fromthe Mind Stone, the very same infinity stone that gave Wanda her powers. Their relationship grew inCaptain America: Civil Waras Wanda struggled with guilt and Vision struggled to behave more like a human. Vision’s last appearance was inAvengers: Infinity Warwhen he was killed by Thanos in the film’s final scenes. Somehow, Vision will return in the Disney Plus series, but the actor isn’t revealing how.
“Through the genius ofMarvel and Kevin Feigethere’s an answer to that, but it’s not one that I can give you.”
The show has been described as “half classic sitcom, half MCU spectacular,” and the stars had difficulty explaining just what that means. Bettany pointed out that it is, “avant-hard, and weird, and messed up, and then moves seamlessly into more familiar territory. But the place that it starts is so odd.” Olsen explained that the totally different genre moves between the reality of the MCU where Earth could “be exploded by aliens all the time,” and a “sitcom universe” that plays around with time period. Overall, the actors promise great fun from the genre and world mash-up with a script that had them “genuinely blown away” by the extraordinary work.
The series takes place afterAvengers: Endgamewhere we finally got a glimpse of Wanda Maximoff’s true power, and it will also transition directly intoDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, another Marvel project that will likely promise spectacular weirdness.
WandaVisionwill live within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is set to feature an adult version of Captain Marvel’s Monica Rambeau played by Teyonah Parris, as well returning MCU characters from Kat Dennings and Randall Park.
