With just a few hours left untilStar Trek Discoverydebuts on CBS, the network has released a new video revealing the opening credit sequence. CBS has also revealed another video that reveals the titles for the first fourStar Trek Discovery episodes, which could reveal new plot points for the series as a whole. If that’s not enough, CBS All Access has also announcedAfter Trek, a live companion after show that will debut tonight on CBS All Access after the premiere episode airs on CBS.
The opening credits video debuted onStar Trek YouTube, while the episode title video surfaced on theStar Trek DiscoveryTwitter, which reveals that the first four episodes are entitled “The Vulcan Hello,” “Battle at the Binary Stars,” “Context Is For Kings” and “The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not For the Lambs Cry.” These titles certainly follow the storied tradition of uniqueStar Trek episodetitles, which may offer some new plot details as well, although the following is only mere speculation based on what is already known about the series.
“The Vulcan Hello” may delve into the history of Sonequa Martin Green’s lead characterFirst Officer Michael Burnham, since her parents were killed in a Klingon attack on Vulcan, and Burnham was raised by Sarek, Spock’s father. Burnham is also, reportedly, the first human to have been educated through the rigorous Vulcan education system, and hopefully we’ll learn more about her back story in tonight’s premiere. “Battle at the Binary Stars” could tease a war between the Federation and the Klingons, while “Context Is For Kings” may be a reference to the Klingon Empire. There is also a rumor that the episode could be an homage to an originalStar Trekepisode “The Conscience of the King,” but that hasn’t been confirmed. The fourth episode, “The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not For the Lambs Cry,” it is believed that the Klingons and the Federation will be at war during this time, and the episode could elaborate on how both sides really feel about the war at hand.
