Last night, legendary horror filmmakerWes Cravenpassed away at the age of 76, after losing his battle with brain cancer. The director didn’t have any film projects in the works at the time of his passing, but he had signed on to develop two shows for Syfy and Universal Cable Productions, adaptations of his 1991 thrillerThe People Under the Stairsand the bookWe Are All Completely Fine. Following the director’s passing, Syfy released a brief statement, mourning the loss ofWes Cravenwhile confirming that his projects will still move forward.

“Wes Cravenwas an icon. Syfy mourns the loss of this great visionary who helped shape an entire generation of horror. We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with him and, along with Universal Cable Productions, will continue to developThe People Under the Stairsand the bookWe Are All Completely Fine- projects to which Wes had already contributed so greatly - in his spirit.”

The filmmaker’s deal forPeople Under the StairsandWe Are All Completely Finewas announced back in April, with Syfy teaming up with Universal Cable Productions for both projects. The production company also released a separate statement, reiterating that both projects will move forward in his honor. Take a look at UCP’s statement below.

As their traumas are brought back to the surface, they uncover whichmonstersthey face are within… and which are lurking in plain sight.Wes Cravenwas attached to write the script, and set to direct thepilotepisode, but it isn’t known who Syfy will bring in to take over the directing and writing duties yet. Craven, Ben Smith & Jeffrey M. Weiner from Captivate Entertainment, andSara Bottfeldfrom Industry Entertainment will executive produce.

The People Under the Stairsis based onWes Craven’s classic 1991 film of the same name. When a young woman goes missing at the grand Robeson Family Manor, her search unveils the centuries-old horrors that lie deep within the estate. It is a contemporaryDownton AbbeymeetsAmityville Horror. Craven, Shep Gordon from Alive Productions, Michael Reisz, and Tracey Murray andSara Bottfeldfrom Industry Entertainment are set to executive produce. The project will be written by Michael Reisz (Shadowhunters,Unforgettable).
