Who Is Rachel McAdams Playing in Doctor Strange?

The studio never did confirm what character she is playing, which lead to rampant speculation that the actress is either Clea, Stephen Strange’s love interest, or Linda Carter, one of the Night Nurse characters from theMarvel Comics. Today,Latino Reviewclaims that the actress is actually playing a different Night Nurse character, Christine Palmer.

Weeks beforeRachel McAdamswas confirmed, it was rumored that the actress will be playing Linda Carter, after comments made byMarvel’s DaredevilshowrunnerSteven S. DeKnight. He revealed that they had originally planned on castingRosario Dawsonas Linda Carter, the first Night Nurse, but they changed her character to Claire Temple becauseMarvelalready had “plans” for Linda Carter in the works. This lead to speculation thatRachel McAdamswill play Linda Carter, but if this new report is accurate, that won’t be the case.

In the comics, Christine Palmer is in fact one of the Night Nurses, showing up as the primary character in 1973’s “Night Nurse #4.“Latino Reviewspeculates that the studio may have went with the Christine Palmer character instead of Linda Carter because Palmer has a background as a surgical assistant, which could provide a perfect pairing with neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).Marvelwouldn’t comment on the report, so we’ll have to wait and see if they officially announce her character in the near future.

Regardless of who she’s playingRachel McAdamsjoins a cast that also includesTilda Swintonas The Ancient One andChiwetel Ejioforas the villainous Baron Mordo, although no other cast members or characters have been confirmed yet. ProducerKevin Feigealso clarified earlier this month thatDoctor Strangewill in fact be an origin story. There had been rumors that claimed the studio was “sick” of origin stories, although he did tease that it will be told in a much different way.
