Will Crossbones Return in Another Marvel Movie?

Back in 2014, Marvel fans were introduced toFrank Grillo’s character Brock Rumlow inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, who transformed into the villainousCrossbonesin this summer’s blockbusterCaptain America: Civil War. We didn’t see too much of Crossbones inCivil War, but this nefarious character plays an integral part in the destructive event that divides theAvengers. While most fans simply assumed that Crossbones won’t be returning,Frank Grillorecently offered a cryptic tease. If you haven’t seenCaptain America: Civil Warquite yet, there will be SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

In the first act ofCaptain America: Civil War, the new Avengers have teamed up to stop a new threat, whichFrank Grillo’s Crossbones is ultimately responsible for. This nefarious character assembled a team of his own to get a hold of a biological weapon, but in case things went awry, he also strapped a suicide bomb to his chest. When Captain America (Chris Evans) and his team stop him, he activates the bomb, and while Scarlet Witch tries to move Crossbones away from civilians, several people lost their lives, which was one of the events that lead to the divisive Sokovia Accords. While most assumed that Crossbones died in the blast,Frank Grilloteased in an interview withGood Morning Americathat we may not have seen the last of Crossbones.

“You think he dies, don’t you? Did you see the body? What did you see? That happened last time. I’m not saying anything except that…You didn’t see a body.”

The “last time” he is referring to is the end ofCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, where Crossbones was also thought to have died when he was caught in a collapsing building. It’s worth noting that the actor has previously confirmed that his contract withMarvelspans “multiple movies,” although he wouldn’t specify how many movies he’s slated to appear in. It’s possible that he could be slated to return inAvengers: Infinity War, but it isn’t known how he would fit into the story, especially with the main villain Thanos set to wreak havoc upon the entire world.

As of now, Marvel doesn’t have any otherCaptain Americamovies in development, but the studio has already set released dates for three unspecified movies in the year 2020, which will most certainly mark the start of Phase 4.Inhumans, which was recently pushed out of its 2019 release date, will likely be one of these movies, but we don’t know quite yet what the others may be. Hopefully we’ll get more clarification from Marvel about the future of Crossbones in theMarvel Cinematic Universevery soon, so stay tuned for more updates.
