In news that will both shock and alarmStar Warsfans everywhere in equal measure, the man behindThe Last Jedi, Rian Johnson, would love the chance to add his name to the already stacked list of great directors behindThe Mandalorian. When asked about whether he would like to turn his eye to the series' second season, Johnson made his feelings very clear.
“Hell yeah! Man, if I had the time, I would get in there in a heartbeat. I had a set visit for Season 1 and it looked amazing. It looked like so much fun!”
The sheer amount of exclamation marks indicate how much the director would relish the opportunity to help continue the story of the mysterious Mandalorian and hisBaby Yodacompanion. Though the news will no doubt excite fans of Johnson’s previousStar Warseffort, those who felt it was the cinematic equivalent to hemorrhoids will surely be sent into a fury at the director even mentioning the title of the Disney+ show. Added to the fact thatRian Johnsonhas already irked someMandalorianfans with his accidental Baby Yoda reveal, and maybe adding him to the directing roster is not the smartest idea ever conceived.
Johnson’s excitement about once again returning to theStar Wars universeis ample evidence that the director has not been put off by the more toxic side of the fanbase, something which he should be commended for considering the vitriol sent his way since the release ofThe Last Jedi. With the director still in talks to helm his own trilogy, and the idea of him directing an episode forThe Mandalorian’ssecond series, it looks like theThe Last Jedidetractors may have to deal with Johnson’s presence for the foreseeable future.
Thus far,The Mandalorianhas been a smash hit with both audeinces and critics alike, with both scores at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
