Earlier this year, it was confirmed thatWillem Dafoeis joining theDCEUwith a mysterious role inJustice League, which was later confirmed to be the Atlantean character Nuidis Vulko. Most fans assumed that, likeAmber Heard’s Mera, Vulko will be introduced inJustice Leagueto set up a role in the stand aloneAquamanmovie. As it turns out, that’s exactly what’s happening, according toWillem Dafoehimself.
The Guardiancaught up withWillem Dafoewho was promoting his new movieDog Eat Dog. The talk eventually shifted to his role in the growing DCEU as Nuidis Vulko. Here’s what he had to say about this character below.
“Well,Justice Leagueis very particular because it’s an ensemble movie and my character is being introduced here in order to be a principal role inAquaman. These films are a different experience. They have different responsibilities, different resources and different intentions. It’s nice to go between those worlds if you can. They serve different impulses.”
Justice LeagueandBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticewriterChris Terriorevealed earlier this year that both theAquaman movieandThe Flashmovie will continue theJustice Leaugestory. Both of those films will hit theaters in 2018, directly betweenJustice LeagueandJustice League Part 2, which is slated for release on August 14, 2025.Willem Dafoeis no stranger to the superhero genre, starring as The Green Goblin inSam Raimi’s 2002 blockbusterSpider-Man, but the actor revealed how different an experienceJustice Leaguewas, when compared toSpider-Man.
“That was interesting because, as big as that film was,Sam Raimididn’t have a formula. And I think with Justice League I think they’re trying to play around with the formula.Zack Snydercertainly has a heavy stamp on it. But Spider-Man was a very personal film to Sam. He really believed in the story. It was dear to him. It was fun to see a big studio film like that be so personal. I mean, nothing’s perfect, but it’s a good film.”
