The ‘Scrubs’ Reboot Has Been Difficult To Put Together

TheScrubsreboot is currently in development at ABC, and even though the network is high on it, putting the project together has been difficult. Many of the issues came down to making deals with the key players, which first began with Lawrence, the series' creator. He is under an exclusive overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, butScrubsis being developed by Disney’s 20th TV and ABC. It was ultimately worked out, but Lawrence won’t be a writer or showrunner on theScrubsreboot as he’s busy with other shows for WBTV that includeTed Lasso,Shrinking,Bad Monkey, and a Steve Carell HBO comedy that’son the horizon.

Closing the deals with Lawrence and Braff should make it easier to land the remaining members of the cast, which include Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes. 20th TV should be reaching out to them soon to secure their pacts, and for those worried that Reyes may not be able to join because she’s currently a series regular onHigh Potential,it’s being reported that it’ll be worked out for her to appear in both projects.

Scrubsran from 2001-2010, originally on NBC, before concluding on ABC. A total of nine seasons and 182 episodes were produced of the comedy, which focused on the employees of the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. The title is not only a play on the surgical scrubs that they wear, but also because of their lower ranking at the start of the series, because they are medical interns. The main focus is on J.D. (Braff), whose daydreams are presented as vignettes while the lives of his co-workers are also explored.

As for Braff, he has had quite a career following his success onScrubs. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series during his time on the series and secured three Golden Globe Award nominations for his work on the show. In 2004, he made his directorial debut with the filmGarden State, which was made for $2.5 million and ultimately pulled in over $35 million. His other film credits includeThe Last Kiss,The Ex,andIn Dubious Battle.
