After languishing in development at 20th Century Fox for years, thepost-apocalypticprojectZorro Rebornis moving forward once again, thanks to a new partnership with Lantica Media and Sobini Films. Lantica will provide the financing, with production to begin in March 2016 at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, with Mark Amin (Stonehearst Asylum) set to produce.Heat Vision Blogreports that the studios are currently searching for a filmmaker to take on this project.
Zorro Rebornwas first in development at 20th Century Fox back in 2011, with pre-visualization specialistRpin Suwannaththen set to make his directorial debut, from a screenplay by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, who would go on to create theNetflixseriesHemlock Grove.Gael García Bernalwas in talks to star back in 2012, but a deal never materialized. Over the years, filmmakers such asBryan Singer,Ricardo de Montreuil,Gary WhittaandJustin Markswere attached. Here’s what producer Mark Amin had to say about the project moving foward.

The traditional Zorro stories follow the masked title character who fights corruption for peasants and farmers. This project is set in the near-future in a post-apocalyptic landscape, keeping the same theme in play of this mysterious hero taking on evil doers. Here’s what Lantica CEOAntonio Gennarihad to say in a statement.
“Every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation.”
